Over the past several years, the AYBA Board revamped the tryout process and evaluation criteria (e.g. new drills, new way of conducting tryouts, new criteria we are looking for). We spent hours and hours brainstorming, discussing, reviewing, testing, and revising this process. Here is an overview of the evaluation/selection process:

• AYBA Board Members who are not affiliated with the grade or know the kids in a grade conduct the evaluations during tryouts.
• Some feedback is collected from other Board members present during tryouts, as well as from coaches who may have more historical context on a particular player.
• Coaches do not select the teams, the evaluators do.
• Once selections are made, players are notified in this order:

1) Invites are sent via email to the Blue team players.

2) If a Blue team player declines, the invite goes to the top player evaluated from the White team.

3) Once all Blue team players are confirmed, invites go out to the White team players.

4) If a White team player declines, the invite goes to the top player evaluated from the players who did not get an invite yet.

5) Once all White team players confirm, the emails go out to players who did not make a team.

This process can take several days to complete for each grade.  It's a very difficult process and these decisions are very hard. The AYBA Board takes this process very seriously, and while we cannot guarantee we get every selection correct, the process is executed fairly and impartially, and we make the best decisions we can based on the information we have. There are no pre-selected spots; every year is a new, clean slate for every single player.

****3rd Graders are encouraged to Register for Metro Travel Basketball if interested.  Should we have enough 3rd graders sign up we will have a separate tryout for 3rd Grade at a later date to be determined.
