Metrowest Playoffs Begin This Week for All Teams

Attleboro boys and girls youth travel basketball teams concluded an outstanding regular season this past weekend, with many teams poised to make a statement in this year’s Metrowest playoffs.

The Metrowest travel basketball league consists of nearly 1,200 teams from 110 towns across Eastern Massachusetts.  With over 14,000 athletes grades 4-8, it is one of the largest travel basketball leagues in the country. Towns submit multiple teams based on their grade level and gender into 5 different divisions based on the town’s size, or team’s skill level and depth.  Attleboro boys grades had two teams per grade, while each grade had one girls team except for the 8th grade, which had two.

For the 2019-2020 season, Attleboro sent 16 different teams to compete in up to a 12 game regular season schedule that began in December, 2018.  By all accounts Attleboro teams were competitive across the board. Attleboro had four teams competing at the D1 level, three teams competing at the D2 level, two more at the D3 level, four in D4 and three in D5.

The overall record for all 10 Attleboro boys teams was 73-46, while the overall record with the 6 girls teams was 51-20.

Team accomplishments were many across the board, with the 8th grade girls D1 team finishing another strong year at 7-4 and ranked #3 out of over seventy 8th grade teams.  While the 8th boys D2 team closed their regular season slate at 10-2. The boys and girls 7th grade continued their outstanding play from the summer leagues with the boys finishing a perfect 12-0, becoming only the second Attleboro team in history to accomplish that feat at the D1 level.  They finished the regular season ranked #1 out of nearly 125 teams in the Metrowest league heading into the playoffs. The 7th girls finished 11-1 in D2 and ranked #4 overall heading into the playoffs while being bumped up to the D1 playoffs.

Other strong team performances included the boys 8th D4, who pulled down eight wins against only four losses, while the girls 8th D4 and boys 7th D4 both recorded solid 6-6 slates. The boys (D2) and girls (D3) 6th,  finished 7-5 and 10-2 respectively. The Girls 5th D2 and boys 6th D4 also closed with a winning 7-5 record. The boys 4th D1 proved very competitive in their first full year at 7-5, while their 4th girls D5 counterparts were an outstanding 10-2.  Finally, the boys 5th D5 team also finished with a very popular 7-5 record.

In summary, it was another outstanding year for Attleboro youth travel basketball, and we congratulate all teams on a fantastic regular season.  We also hope to see many of our teams make deep runs into the Metrowest tournament, which concludes March 15th.
