Metrowest Travel Overview and Expectations

Attleboro competes in the Metrowest Basketball League, Massachusetts' largest travel basketball organization.  Travel basketball is known to have a higher level of competitiveness than recreational basketball.  Any players considering making the jump to a traveling team should be made aware of the following:

  • Metrowest basketball is highly competitive and plays in a travel league of over 100 towns in Eastern Massachusetts. These teams are for more advanced players and require tryouts to make a team.

  • A larger financial commitment in addition to recreation league fees.

  • A larger time commitment.  Expect two nights per week for practice, and games on weekends and the occasional weekday.

  • The expectation that Metrowest Travel is the highest priority sport and team during the Metrowest Travel season.  All other sports and basketball leagues must be secondary to Metrowest Travel commitments. The expectation is that players will attend all practices and games and will not miss Metrowest activities to attend other activities.

  • The Attleboro Metrowest travel teams and rec leagues are limited to Attleboro residents only.  Non-Attleboro residents are not allowed to tryout or play for the AYBA teams.  Proof of residency will sometimes be requested for players to ensure compliance with these standards.

  • Practices will be every Wednesday and Thursday starting typically in November  (gym locations and times TBD).
  • Games will be on Sundays (times and locations TBD).  You will play some games at home and will need to travel to some games (usually no more than 45-50 minutes away). The first game is on typically the first week in December and runs through mid-March including playoffs.
  • The fee to play is $320. The fee covers league fees, insurance, uniforms including shooting shirt, refereeing fees, etc.  Payment will need to be made during the first week of practices in November (more info to come on payments).
  • Your coach may decide to participate in 1-2 preseason or midseason tournaments.  These typically cost $20-30 per player and are above the Metrowest fee.
  • All Players must be sized on designated sizing nights for uniforms.  Failure to get sized can lead to additional cost incurred by parents/players.

The expectations of Metrowest players are simple – come to every practice and game focused and ready to work hard, pay attention, try your best, support one another, and represent Attleboro by always displaying good sportsmanship.  This is not a rec league – the competition, intensity, and expectations are much higher than a rec league.  Playing time will not be equal – it will vary from game to game and will be determined by practice performance, attitude, effort, and game conditions.  The goal is to develop every player while focusing on competing at a high level during every practice and every game.

Parents and players are expected to read and understand the AYBA Code of Conduct, which can be found on the AYBA website https://www.bluepridebasketball.com/parentscoc
